Diplomas are usually issued 1-2 weeks after the end of the term. For the past summer term, diplomas were issued on August 28, 2024. Both digital and paper diplomas are managed through Parchment. Digital diplomas were sent to students' JagMail accounts on August 28, 2024. Paper diplomas were printed and mailed on August 31, 2024, from the Parchment printing facility in Ohio. Domestic diplomas are shipped via USPS, while international diplomas are sent via FedEx. It may take up to two weeks for students to receive their paper diplomas. Q: What should I expect on the day of Commencement?

Q: Why are there two dates for commencement and graduation?
A: The two dates serve different purposes. Commencement is the day(s) students walk across the stage and receive their diploma covers, allowing family and friends to celebrate the achievement. This ceremony is a significant milestone and a time for festivities. In contrast, the graduation date is the official date recorded on transcripts and diplomas, coinciding with the end of the term in which the degree is completed. This date is used for official records and documentation.
Q: When and how do I order my cap and gown?
A: Regalia must be ordered from the university's approved vendor, Graduate Supply House, in order to participate in Commencement. Online regalia ordering for Fall 2024 Commencement opens on August 20, 2024.
Q: Are there any items I cannot bring?
A: All Mitchell Center policies and procedures, including the clear bag entry policy, will be enforced for graduates and guests. Outside food/beverages, balloons, glitter, silly string, noise makers, etc. are not allowed in the Mitchell Center. Firearms, smoking/vaping, and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Only empty, clear, plastic water bottles are permitted.
Q: How long will the ceremony last?
A: The duration of each ceremony is dependent on the number of graduates who participate.
Q: Am I expected to stay for the entire ceremony?
A: Yes, the last degree candidate is as important as the first so we ask that you be considerate.
Q: Is there a limit on the number of guests I can invite?
A: At this time, there is no limit to the number of guests a graduate may invite to commencement.
Q: Will guests need tickets to attend?
A: Tickets are not required for the Fall 2024 Commencement ceremonies.
Q: I have a guest who will need accommodations. What should I do?
A: Wheelchair-accessible parking will be available in the Mitchell Center parking lot on a first-come-first-serve basis. A state-issued handicap placard or license plate is required for parking in this lot. It is recommended that guests with limited mobility enter the Mitchell Center via the ramp at the south entrance. Once inside the Mitchell Center, ushers will be available to assist guests. Sections 104 and 105 are reserved for mobility-impaired guests. Only one person may accompany each guest seated in these sections.
Q: Can I view the Commencement program online?
A: Yes, the Commencement programs will be available on the Commencement program website shortly before the ceremony begins. Commencement programs for prior ceremonies are also posted on Commencement program website.
